Mary Taylor's mother was Alice Gascoigne. Her family was a prominent part of the English nobility, and crossed with many of the major lines in English history, including the Mobrays and the Nevilles. Among her ancestors are a few Cornwallis names, according to at least one lineage. Queen Elizabeth II has Gascoigne roots, as does George Washington.

John Taylor's family has some celebrated cousins as well. Claims have been made that Presidents Zachary Taylor, James Madison, and Abraham Lincoln all trace to the Taylors of Northumberland County, Va.
